Using Notion for One Page Game Docs
Using a 1-Page Game Document in Notion to make Design Docs easily
Hi in this update , I will sharing using Notion for Game Docs. I came across this on BiteMe games on creating 1 Page Game Docs.
Benefits
Get up and quickly draft a Simple Game Doc without going in the details at the beginning.
I find that some of the game doc templates while good, can be intimidating in the beginning, as it is just too long and detailed, and you get this analysis paralysis, during the game design process.
By making a simple one page document on paper or in notion it can help you go through a few iterations of ideas quickly rather than having felt invested in one idea.
Using Notion
To make the One Page Game Doc I tired and used notion based on the template I found for my project Sun and Moon.
Notion has been slowly gaining a lot of popularity from project management to notetaking and creating documentation.
I like that from that single page, you can later expand and take it into a different project structure.
You can also track the changes in the history of the document to see what updates were made previously. I am slowly liking this more than Word or Google Docs.
What to fill up
Here is what you need to fill in the 1 pager that has been setup in the template.
Main Theme, Hook and Summary (Think of it like the intro to the steam page
Core Game Mechanic

That’s it and from here you can take it further by fleshing out or making another game Idea.

I should repurpose this sort of thing for my newsletter (and frankly any content I make), as I already use Notion.
It'll help me sort through my one or two word notes that weeks later I'm like "what???" about. 😓
I love Notion. I just wish they'd optimise the site's performance to feel less sluggish. At least they finally added forms recently, so that's a plus.
